Wisconsin Court System - Circuit courts
Circuit courts have original jurisdiction in all civil and criminal matters within the state, including probate, juvenile, and traffic matters, as well as civil and criminal jury trials. Currently, there are 253 circuit court judges in Wisconsin. The circuit courts are divided into branches with at least one branch in every county, with the exception of six counties that are paired off and share judges.

WCCA was created in 1999 in response to increasing requests from district attorneys, law enforcement, and other court business partners to access court records. Businesses, members of the media, and the general public have benefited from WCCA and many have come to rely on it as their primary means of accessing circuit court data.

June 24, 2022 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed circuit court judges from Waushara, Outagamie and Taylor counties as new chief judges of their respective judicial administrative districts, effective Aug. 1, 2022. The Court also re-appointed judges from Kenosha and Barron counties to continue as chief judges.

Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA) Wisconsin’s Open Record Act was passed in 1981. As per this law, the public has the right to collect or view public records unless forbidden by the law in exceptional cases. Thus, a public website called WCCA or Wisconsin Circuit Court Access was created for the general public.
